APACHE YOUTH
Assist. Prof. Dr. Omer Mirac Yaman sheds light on the real story of the "Apache Youth", a youth trend that is frequently mentioned in recent years, sometimes despised and exposed to gross insults, and most often defined with exclusionary and cynical statements.
Who are these young people, who should be "beaten with wet wood" for some and are "modified" hicks, louts, yahoos or boors for others, who are called suburban poor kids or molesters sometimes, who wear colorful outfits with shock heads, seams and tattoos?
Where are they from, what do they do, why are they expelled from school, what jobs do they do, why do they get harassed or harass at work, how do they enjoy themselves, where do they hang out most, why do they have Sahin-Dogan cars, what do they try to say with their seamy arms, how are they with their families, why do they have a run-in with the police, why do they fight and what tools do they use in fights, which party do they vote for, which political leader do they like, how are they with drugs, why do they use slang too much, what do they say when they hear "God and Prophet", what is the extent of solidarity among themselves, how do they see the government, what do they think about those who call them "apache"?
You will find the answers to these and many other questions in this book by "apaches" in person and by those who call them so. For a better understanding of this study, which turns a new page in the field of youth research in Turkey, go ahead and meet the "Apache Youth"...
